Ballet offers well structured classes which develop good posture, movement quality, sense of line, balance, musicality, and coordination. Students will recognize the need for a foundation in Ballet if they choose to achieve excellence in all forms of dance. Students are leveled based on ability.

Pointe - (Min. age is 10 y/o and in Ballet 2 or higher)
Class may be taken only with permission of the instructor. Pointe work is taken following a leveled Ballet class. Class begins at the barre and will focus on the art of pointe technique, building strength, combinations in center, and progressing performance training.

Jazz
Class is designed to familiarize students with the classic and contemporary styles of Jazz dance, while emphasizing the importance of each student’s unique talents and personal style. The atmosphere is positive yet challenging, and all that is asked is an open mind and a willingness to give it your all.

Each class begins with a structured technique warm-up that combines elements of jazz, ballet, pilates, and yoga; the overall goal is to strengthen the dancer and increase flexibility. From there, students continue by working across the floor – putting into practice many of the exercises from the warm-up. Finally, a combination will be taught each class ranging from Contemporary to Lyrical to Musical Theatre Dance.

Students should be dressed in proper form-fitting attire and come prepared with flat jazz shoes as well as character shoes.

Tap
We offer a tap program for beginners through to advanced. This high energy style of dance combines rhythm, technique and style, transforming your feet into the instrument that plays with the music.

Hip Hop
Over the past years Hip Hop has grown in popularity and now has its own distinct style. Students will thoroughly enjoy this fast paced class, with moves that will challenge their coordination abilities and skills while learning about the evolution of this genre.

Modern
This class explores ideas from Cunningham, Limon, and release techniques of Modern Dance, with particular emphasis on placement, breath, control, and weightedness.

Lyrical
Techniques are implemented to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A solid, ballet-based technique is an essential component of this advanced style of dance, as is a facility with various other forms of jazz, some contemporary/modern dance, and proper placement and bodily alignment.

Choreographic Concepts NEW IN SUMMER 2009
